February Blog Income

I ended the month of February with a total of $94.54 in online income for Blogging Gal and The Kat House. Earnings came from SponsoredReviews, blog contests, private ad sales, Project Wonderful, Google Adsense, CashCrate, and WidgetBucks.

Total year to date blog income = $242.66.

Google Adsense hasn’t been performing well at all for me lately. In fact, I’m stripping most of the ad units from my sites and replacing them with something more lucrative. I used Project Wonderful for only the last couple of weeks of February, and it outperformed Adsense in half the time.

I have had no activity whatsoever on ScratchBack since early January, so I removed the widget from The Kat House sidebar.

Commission Junction was another time and space waster. I earned absolutely nothing from affiliate ads during the month of February. I just finished stripping Commission Junction ads from my sites as well. I’m now giving Pepperjam Network a try. I’ll keep you posted on the results. So far, I’m very impressed with the program. There are more relevant advertisers in the network, and the site is extremely user friendly. An Affiliate Manager contacted me by chat while I was logged in this morning and gave me lots of great information. I never had that kind of personal attention while logged in to Commission Junction. I’m not sure if their site even has chat capabilities.

For the month of March, I’ll be focusing my energy on Pepperjam and Project Wonderful, while continuing to eliminate the programs that just aren’t performing. I am also giving private ad sales a try here on Blogging Gal. 125 x 125 pixel banner ad spots are available for $10 per month. Check my Advertise page for more information.

I would love to hear how each of you did with your monetization efforts last month. How much did you earn? What programs performed best? Worst? What changes do you anticipate making during the month of March?

Good luck with Pepperjam. I am anxious to hear how that works out for you. I just started using Commission Junction and have no idea how it will perform for me. I was also concerned with the fact that CJ will charge ME if I don’t earn anything for six months from their ads. Thanks for sharing this information, it is helpful to the rest of us. :)

Nice to see the income coming in, Tish. I agree with you about CJ. I haven’t used them much, admittedly, but always found their interface to be gosh darn complicated. PepperJam Network is indeed a very user-friendly and customer service oriented piece of work. The rep I have has always been very helpful and I even received a couple of commissions which is more than I can say for other types of revenue-generating services so far.

I signed up for CJ six months ago, and yep you guessed it, they sent me an email threatening to deactivate my account and unleash the dogs of hell against me if I didn’t make a profit within 30 days. Um, ok…

It’s been a long time since I sped-clicked this fast to cancel an account. Holy Cow. And the way they buried the process of canceling an account deep within their byzantine site left a bad taste in my mouth as well. They better not charge me afterwards either or I’m going to start calling people names.

I applied to Azoogleads too but they blew me off. Like, completely. Bunch of snotty little bast..

But anyhoo, I think it’s all for the best anyway. I spent the past month or so trying to get the hang of affiliate marketing and decided I hated it. HATED it. I’m hawking products much of which I can’t possibly vouch for, and yet I need to shill for it like it’s manna from heaven meant to feed our weary souls, lest we die. I’m just not a salesman, and I don’t want to be either. Instead, I decided to limit my efforts in affiliate marketing to products I actually use. It eases my conscience and it gives me more incentive to promote it to my visitors and readers, because I know I’m offering something of value. This approach also gives me much more time to focus on blogging too. At heart I’m a writer, not a marketer, and if that means I’ll never be rich, well so be it. :P

This business side of blogging is too much for this right brained person to handle anyway. I’d much prefer to twirl and dance in the summer rain than master the fine art of keyword analysis and conversion rates and bidding strategies and effective landing pages and multi tiered campaigns and somebody shoot me now please. Gah.

Oy, I need calm down and go listen to some Air Supply songs. :)

It’s great that you post your monthly income! It surely motivates me and makes me think it can be done. I’m not currently making any money from my blog, but it would be nice to get a little something from the effort!
I also wanted to invite you (and your readers) to my new contest, I’m giving away free ad space for a whole month, plus the story subscribed will be published with linkbacks! http://megavegalicious.com/2008/03/04/contest-update-new-story-contest/

Great to see you make progress, Tish! I am about $.70 shy of cashing out in Scratchback.. so I’m waiting for that last tip before I can free up the space. Adsense is working out for me lately but nothing spectacular considering my techie audience. I have been wanting to try Project Wonderful as well! I probably will sometime this week. :-)
