In Defense of Garry Conn

Professional blogger Garry Conn is really shaking things up in the blogosphere with his post entitled Smorty Offers Advice On How To Thwart Page Rank Loss. Like most other articles on GarryConn Dot Com, this one was written to pass on helpful advice to those who would like to attain the level of success that Garry has worked so hard for. In the post, Garry injected a bit of his brand of humor, comparing paid posts to prostitution.

paid-post-prostitution-2.pngThere are currently 51 comments on that post, with the majority of them being personal attacks on Garry. It has gone far beyond expressing opposing viewpoints. Readers apparently have nothing better to do than to scrutinize Garry’s blog and point out spelling and grammatical errors. Frankly, I am disappointed and ashamed at the level of immaturity displayed.

I recently signed up for SponsoredReviews, but when my readers began to warn me about the dangers associated with paid reviews, I chose not to participate. Garry’s article has convinced me that I made the right decision.

Perhaps Garry’s humor didn’t come across as he intended, but the article is informative and full of great advice. Those who choose to look at the photo instead of reading the article have missed the point.

On a personal note, Garry is a great friend of mine, and I’d like to point out that there are few in the blogosphere who can match his kind and caring nature. In addition to the advice he posts on Garry Conn Dot Com, he works with a number of bloggers on a more personal level, giving valuable tips without asking for anything in return. I am proud to call him a friend.

If you’d like to see what all the controversy is about, I encourage you to read Garry’s post and its comments.

Garry, thank you for continuing to pass on your wisdom!

I understand your position and your point and I agree that he does give out some tidbits of useful information on his blog.

However, anyone who thinks they won’t catch hell for comparing Stay At Homw Moms who make a little extra Christmas money to street walking hookers just isn’t thinking clearly.

That’s why I think the whole thing was link/comment bait. I don’t want to go on too long in your comments. I wrote my own response article.

Ad Tracker - I checked out your post and commented. I completely understand how you feel, especially given that this situation is personal for you. I think Garry’s humor didn’t quite come off as intended to a lot of the readers.

    Thanks for visiting!

    Too much fuss.

To be frank, I don’t like to be compared to a hooker. As the reader above notes, anyone who makes that comparison is going to cop trouble.

I don’t find it funny at all…seriously, if you were the one targeted, and didn’t already know the blogger, would you?

Many bloggers, myself included, take great pains to disclose very obviously that a post is sponsored.

GC also made at least one factual error: not all the P3 posts require a minimum page rank.

The Page Rank thing makes it more difficult in the short run, but the introduction of RealRank is likely to give them a run for their money. Google has become a monopoly, and a greedy one at that.

Looks like Gary gives back as much as he gets though. ;)

Tish, I think you are right that Garry’s humor didn’t come off to a lot of folks like it was intended to. I have known Garry for a long time and I can immediately spot his intention but obviously didn’t work the same way with others. Again, this kind of boldness is what makes me go back to his blog. :-)

K - It sure is nice to see you here! And yes, I like Garry’s boldness as well. :)
